Using Shop

Add a receipt

Photograph a paper receipt or import a photo. It uploads in the background.

Home screen in the app: the receipts inbox

Scan a paper receipt

  1. Tap the add button and choose Scan receipt.
  2. Hold the receipt flat on a dark surface. For a long receipt, scan more pages; they are joined into one receipt.
  3. Choose the receipt date: read it from the receipt, or pick the day you shopped.
  4. Choose the shop, or leave it and Shop reads the shop name from the receipt. If the shop is new, the receipt offers it as a suggestion: accept it, edit it or tap Not now.

You can keep scanning while the receipt uploads. If you are offline, the scan is saved and uploads when you reconnect.

Import photos or PDFs

Use this for receipts you already have, including old ones.

  1. Tap the add button and choose Import receipts.
  2. Choose Photo library or Files, and pick as many as you like. JPEG, PNG, HEIC and PDF work.
  3. Drag the corners to the receipt's edges. You can rotate a page, reset it, or keep the original.
  4. Set the date and shop, or let Shop read them from each receipt.

What happens next

Shop reads the text on your server, splits it into lines and checks that the lines add up to the printed total. On Home the receipt shows as processing, then as ready, or as Needs review if something doesn't add up.

TipFlat, well-lit, straight-on photos work best. A curled receipt photographed at an angle is the usual reason a total doesn't match.
